Key terms
Words you'll see in GTM and in sales, in plain English.
Selling
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Go-to-market (GTM) | How a company finds customers and sells to them |
| ICP | Ideal customer profile. The kind of company that buys from you most, like "software companies with 10 or more salespeople." |
| Account | A company you sell to, or want to |
| Prospect | A person who might buy from you |
| Buying signal | News that says a company may need you now, like hiring salespeople or raising money |
| Outreach | Reaching out to people, by email or LinkedIn |
| Cold email | An email to someone who doesn't know you yet. GTM calls these first emails. |
| Follow-up | The next message, when someone hasn't replied |
| Lead | A person you could sell to, often one in a list or campaign |
| Campaign | A set of emails sent to a list of leads, in an outreach tool like Instantly or Smartlead |

In GTM
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Company Brief | GTM's notes on your company: what you sell, who buys it and why. Agents use it to decide who fits. |
| Agent | A helper that does one job for you, on a schedule or when you ask |
| Draft | A message an agent wrote. It waits for you in the Inbox. |
| Inbox | Where you approve drafts and answer replies |
| Directory | Your list of people and companies |
| ICP fit | A score from 0 to 100 for how well a person or company matches your Company Brief |
| Run | One time an agent does its job |
| Trigger | What starts a run: a schedule, you asking, or something happening in a connected app |
| Signal | Activity GTM picks up for your agents to act on, like a comment on your company's LinkedIn post |
| Chats | Where you ask GTM anything. Each chat keeps its own history. |
| Library | Your files: the Company Brief and everything GTM saves for you |
| Workspace | Your team's space in GTM, with its own agents, Directory and Library |
| Admin, member | Admins can change workspace settings, sending and shared apps. Members can do everything else. See Team and permissions. |
Connecting tools
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Integration | A tool you connect to GTM, like your CRM or Slack |
| API key | A password-like code an app gives you, so another app can use it on your behalf |
| MCP | A standard way for AI tools, like Claude or ChatGPT, to use other apps such as GTM |
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Domain | The part of an email address after the @, like acme.com |
| Subdomain | A name under your domain, like agents.acme.com. Mail sent from it is kept apart from acme.com. |
| DNS | Your domain's settings. They live wherever you bought the domain, like GoDaddy or Cloudflare. |
| DNS record | One line in those settings |
| Sender reputation | How much inboxes trust your mail. Sending too much, too fast lowers it, and your mail lands in spam. |
| Warm-up | Sending a little at first and more each week, to build that trust |
| Bounce | An email that couldn't be delivered |
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Connection request | An invite to connect, with an optional short note |
| Message | A note to someone you're already connected with |
| DM | A direct message: a private message to one person |
